The Maiden was a track that I wrote around the bassline and drums. I often do this when stuck for riff ideas as I end up coming up with something a bit different from my normal rhythm guitar style. The Maiden features a subtle piano melody that appears in both verse and chorus, I would usually apply an orchestral string plugin afterward, but quite liked the way this sounded off the bat, sitting low in the mix above the guitars. All guitar parts were DI’d with effects applied post-recording using the Neural DSP Archetype: Nolly plugin, one of my go-to pieces of software that I would highly recommend for low tunings.
